INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING, DESIGN & CAD TECHNOLOGY
Welcome to the endless world of Design !
Design as a profession gives you the power of creator !! many congratulations to you for becoming The creator of "An art to part"
We live in the world of fascinating products that goes through frequent changes and upgrades....
Let's first understand the Drawing...
Brief history of Drawing
EXAMPLE OF AN ANCIENT DRAWINGS ON CAVES

For almost Ten thousand years a drawing has been the main way by which ideas has been communicated. The first drawing were made even longer ago, when early man tried to communicate ideas by marking in the dirty floors of caves. It is very natural for human beings to orthographically, perspective draw their ideas.
As you all see even today, permanent drawings were made on the rock walls of the caves, to express emotion and record experiences.
What is Drawing ?
Drawing is a simple rough sketch. Technical Drawing or Drafting is a graphical language using various entities like lines, symbols & annotations to describe an object for manufacture or construction. Technical Drafting is widely used in vast disciplines, including manufacturing, civil, Architecture, Electrical & Electronics & Structural Engineering.
Design is an innovation, of a conceptual imagination which imparts creation of any object, building, system, vehicles, etc. It is a very broad concept and meaning can greatly vary from one field to another which leads to different evolution.
Interconnection of Technical Drawings & Design.
Technical design use Technical drawings as the way to communicate & show ideas. All the Engineers, Drafters & other members of the design team must work closely on design project speaks the same language: the language of Engineering drawing.
The design engineer, though not responsible for the actual production of the drawing must be able to read & understand all aspects of the drawings. The design engineer must be able to make clear, concise sketches that can be given to technologists & drafting technicians for actual preparation of the drawings. Engineering drawings drawn in a logical way following the standards & format help an efficient way to communicate the design information.
CAD ( Computer Aided Drawing/Designing/Drafting) is the peak up.
CAD is a software based computer Technology, with the help of it we can create, optimize & modify Technical Drawings. CAD is an important industrial extensively used in many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, industrial and architectural design and many more.
In the entire discipline, CAD has replaced the manual drafting, like : ability to read, understand & prepare engineering drawings. Ability to make free hand Sketching of objects, power to imagine, analyze & communicate capacity to understand other discipline.
Who Invented CAD Technology?
The invention of CAD/CAM Technology is accredited to French engineer Pierre Bezier. He developed UNISURF software in between 1966 and 1968, for ease the design of parts and tools for the automotive industry. From then, UNISURF become the working base for the following generation of CAD software.
Several advantages of using CAD Technology.
- The most potent driving force is to increase productivity, companies used CAD Technology to draft better design quicker.
- CAD Program enabling you to provide higher quality design.
- Repeatedly modification can be easily done in designs.
- Designing can be documented and presentable easily.
- Sharing of Designs, conferencing the details increases the affiliation.
- Able to design physical objects in a virtual workspace.
What are the CAD software do Engineers use?
Globally we use many software for CAD works for different streams like Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics and telecommunication and so on, but the top 20 CAD software generally adopted such as AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds MAX, Sketchup, Lumion, Creo, Solidworks, Catia, TinkerCAD, FreeCAD, BlocksCAD, Fusion360, OpenSCAD, Rhino, ArchiCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Onshape, Solid Edge, LibreCAD and NanoCAD.
Which CAD Software is best for Beginners ?
AutoCAD is the best software to start your CAD journey, With the help of AutoCAD, we can save
time, increase productivity, easy storage, maintain standard, work accurately.
AutoCAD is compulsory in Government
Organization especially with the PWD'S, NAGAR NIGAM & TOWN & COUNTRY
PLANNING DEPARTMENT.
AutoCAD can make 2D as well as 3D
Drawings, but it is mostly used for the 2d drafting purpose, 3d as compared to
other software provides less quality.
Introduction to AutoCAD.
AutoCAD is one such program, tool sets or say package of commands with the help of it we can draw any type of Technical drawings. It is very comprehensive in its ability to create 2D & some 3D drawings & it is very popular. AutoCAD holds huge percentage among the CAD users in the world, developed & marketed by Autodesk a U.S.A based company. It is available in fourteen different languages. It is used by the professionals such as, Architect, Engineers, Graphic Designer, City Planner & others.
AutoCAD Scopes in Industry.

AutoCAD is a commercial CAD software application. Which is required in every field of Engineering. A person having excellent hold at AutoCAD can have a good package.
AutoCAD is used in:
Civil Engineering applications;
Architectural Engineering;
Designing Automobiles;
Various Electrical Assemblies;
Various Machine Design; and many more.....

I had been asked the Difference between drawing and drafting in an interview
ReplyDeleteDrawing is a simple rough sketch with or without having any parameters or dimensions but Drafting is a Technical Drawings with proper dimensions which is meaningful like PLAN, SECTION, ELEVATION, MACHINE DRAWING, ELECTRICAL LAYOUT DRAWING and many more....
